Old girl is not grandmother!
Date: May 14, 2010
Today we have tasted a Hungarian (Central-European) variety Leányka, which means Girl in English. Probably because it is such a nice, sexy, chirpy and joyful wine. In the last months we have tasted several older whites from Hungary. We have concluded again: Hungarian whites are woth ageing! Today's test is also a memory of Tibor Gál, world famous Hungarian winemaker, who passed away a few years ago.

1, Szuromi Egri Leányka 2005

73 points

Full-bodied, oily, golden color. Savory herbal nose, later camomille and green tea. Slightly sweet taste, soft and balanced with green apples. Full-bodied and sensual, like an opera-singer.

2, Sike Tamás Egri Leányka Selection 2005

75 points

Slowly, oily move with light yellow color. Quince nose, later oranges and nettle. Fresh, clear start, and caraway ending. Listen to Chopin's Noctures, while drinking.

3, GálBor Labirintos Egri Leányka 2005

75 points

Clear green and yellow. Creamy nose, with gooseberry and apples. Straight, almost milky start. A bit of oranges on an airy basis in the middle, and Bailey's feeling in the end. Very exciting one.
